Creative Challenge Month 4: Drawing

Creative Challenge

Join the Elegance and Enchantment Creative Challenge for Month 4 - Drawing and sketching in pencil, pen, colored pencil or charcoal! If drawing isn’t your thing, you can join in on one of the other creative projects that we will be challenging ourselves to throughout the year!

Welcome to month 4 of the Elegance and Enchantment Creative Challenge! If you are just stumbling across this post and want to read more about the origins of the challenge and how you can get involved, I encourage you to start with this post. You can check out recaps from our first two challenges here and here.

Challenge 4 will take place from April 10th – May 8th, but please take extra time if you need it. During this time frame I challenge you to explore pencil, pen, colored pencil and/or charcoal drawing! I’m not the best artist out there, but of all the challenges lined up for the year, this is the one that scares me the least. I know that we are going to be treated to some awesome submissions in a variety styles and I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations. The community has been coming up with super creative and innovative ways to create their projects, but just in case you need some ideas to get things rolling you may want to consider:

1. Creating a self portrait, or a portrait of a loved one. Can’t get them to sit still? Snap a photo to work from, as a reference.

2. Set up and capture a still life using some springtime items like gardening tools and your favorite flowers.

3. Visit a sculpture museum or garden, sit down in your own little corner, and sketch what you see.

4. Dream up your own cartoon characters or illustrations. If you’re a writer, or aspiring writer, you may even consider coming up with your own story to go along with your drawings.

5. Recreate your favorite memory on paper— whether it be a trip you took, a special occasion or a moment that you shared with a loved one.

If you think you may need some help with technique, you may find these resources helpful:
– Pinterest Tutorials
– Craftsy Tutorials
– Classes at your local craft store like Jo-Ann Fabrics, Michaels, or AC Moore
– Classes at your local town center, museum, or adult continuing education

Need to stock up on materials? Here are a few places to check out:
– Amazon’s Arts, Crafts & Sewing Department
– Your local art/craft store

You don’t need much to take part on this challenge— remember that even a piece of scrap paper and a pen or pencil that you have laying around the house can be used to create something truly beautiful.

Remember to share your creative projects with the community!

1. Join the official Creative Challenge Facebook Group
Ask questions about technique, share your struggles and show off your progress

2. Collaborate in the Creative Challenge Pinterest Board
Share your favorite projects, tips and tutorials. Please request to contribute to this board by following the board, following me, and leaving a comment on one of the board’s pins asking to be added. All are welcome!

3. Use the hashtag #EECreativeChallenge
Snap photos of your work and share on Instagram

4. Write your own blog posts chronicling your creative journey
I’m happy to promote, pin and share!

I’m super excited to see everyone’s drawings! Have fun!
