Welcome to month 10 of the Elegance and Enchantment Creative Challenge! If you are just stumbling across this post and want to read more about the origins of the challenge and how you can get involved, I encourage you to start with this post. You can check out recaps from our other challenges here:
Challenge 1 // Challenge 2 // Challenge 3 // Challenge 4 // Challenge 5 // Challenge 6 // Challenge 7 // Challenge 8
Challenge 10 will take place from October 9th – November 13th, but please take extra days if you need them.
I have a love-hate relationship with photography. On one hand I find a lot of joy in taking photos, looking at other people’s photos and Instagram is by far, my favorite social media platform. On the other side of the coin, this medium is a constant frustration for me, especially when it comes to this blog and my business. Snapping a photo of my cats= fun. Trying to capture my work in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, lit perfectly and cropped in just the right fashion is a whole other ball game.
I’m so happy to have the Creative Challenge Community along with me this month as we all attempt to up our photography game. As always, I’m looking forward to seeing the talents of these awesomely creative folks come to life in their projects.
Not sure what type of photo project to tackle? Here are some ideas to ponder:
1. Share one photo a day on Instagram for the next 30 days. The best Instagram feeds have a cohesive look and feel, so think about shooting the same subject matter, or in the same lighting or maybe in the same color palette. You’ll end up with a lovely photo grid that will invite in lots of new followers! Don’t forget those hashtags.
2. Are you a blogger or small business owner like me? Skip those stock photos and challenge yourself to style some of your own photographs for upcoming blog posts or product launches.
3. Play professional photographer. Take your family out for a picnic, an apple picking trip, or if you live in the south, a day at the beach and photograph a combination of candid and posed shots.
4. Make your focus about organizing the photos you already have instead of taking new ones. Streamline your files or paper photographs down to your favorites and create a photo book, either by scrapbooking or using a digital site like Blurb.com.
5. Gather together your favorite photos and combine them with paintings, objects and signs that are special to your family, and create a gallery wall in your home. Need some ideas? Check out this post to get inspired.
